4CCF provides a link between philanthropy and the conservation needs facing us today and in the future.

Focusing on Restoration and Conservation:

  • Salt Marsh Restoration at Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary (Dartmouth, MA): Mass Audubon is working to restore and protect salt marshes, which are crucial for coastal resilience, carbon sequestration, and wildlife habitat. They are using innovative techniques like runneling (creating small channels to improve drainage) and removing barriers to help marshes migrate inland as sea levels rise. This project is a great example of proactive climate adaptation and ecosystem restoration.

  • The Bogs Nature Preserve (Mattapoisett, MA): The Buzzards Bay Coalition transformed retired cranberry bogs into a thriving wetland and grassland ecosystem. This project enhances water absorption and filtration, reduces flooding, and protects groundwater supplies. It's a testament to the power of restoring natural landscapes for multiple environmental benefits.

  • Alewife Cove Conservancy (New London, CT): Partially funded by two grant programs, the City of New London and the Town of Waterford  are collaborating with Alewife Cove Conservancy are leading two projects to study the sediments and hydrodynamic processes in Alewife Cove and to determine the next steps for water quality improvement and resilience.

  • River Restoration Projects: Several organizations, like Save The Bay, are working to remove dams and restore rivers to their natural flow. This improves fish passage, water quality, and overall ecosystem health. Highlighting ongoing community  projects, like the recent restoration of the Mattatuxet River, showcases the positive impact of these efforts.
